19 states – Washington, Oregon, California, Hawaii, Nevada, Colorado, New Mexico, Illinois, Indiana, Florida, Virginia, Maryland, Delaware, New Jersey, New York, Vermont, Massachusetts, Connecticut, and Rhode Island – already have red-flag gun laws. Those in italics only allow law-enforcement to use the red-flag gun laws. Those states in bold allow for people outside of law-enforcement and the troubled individual’s household to make the call to seize guns.

There is a law called the Helms Amendment that was first passed in 1961 which does not allow foreign aid to fund abortions or to fund any organization directing people to get abortions. For fiscal year 2022 that passage read:

“That none of the funds made available under this Act may be used to pay for the performance of abortion as a method of family planning or to motivate or coerce any person to practice abortions:

“Provided further, That nothing in this paragraph shall be construed to alter any existing statutory prohibitions against abortion under section 104 of the Foreign Assistance Act of 1961” (Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2022 Division K, Title III Section 8).
